These are all headlines of emails that I have received in the last week, and the hype is usually just that, HYPE! Let me just say right away that I don’t necessarily have a problem with pre launch mlm tactics being used, because getting in on the ground floor of a good product, or company can be very lucrative.

My objective here is to give you 5 keys that will help you evaluate an opportunity and make sure its right for you, and to make sure that you are getting involved with something that will live up to its claims.

Key #1 – Evaluate The Company Management

This is very important! Always evaluate the management behind a company and verify that they have integrity. There are companies that get going and believe it or not they are started by people that are really just out to make a quick buck and run.

You can save yourself from this heartache and pain by doing your due diligence on each of the board members, and management. They must sell themselves to you, before you will sell for them. Google each persons name, and understand what their backgrounds are, and what brought them to this point.

Key #2 – Timing

Who is your target market? Will they buy what you have? What is the forecast regarding the trends of this industry? These are just a few of the questions you will want to ask yourself and that of your company. Timing is everything when it comes to business. In real estate its location, location, location! Well in business its timing, timing, timing.

If you can answer these questions positively and honestly then your pre launch mlm may be a good option for you. Just stay honest and put aside all of the hype usually associated with the launch of a new MLM company.

Key #3 – The Product

What you have to ask yourself is this, “WILL PEOPLE BUY WHAT I HAVE TO MARKET”! This is by far one of the most important factors in the choosing of your company. I have seen companies that come out with this “Amazing Product” and yet I can go down to Wal-Mart and get the same thing for a 1/3 of the price.

You must verify that your product or service gives more value than what the customer is paying for or receiving to even be competitive in the marketplace. You see if you have a product or service that provides value way beyond what the customer is paying, you will have a long term sustainable business. Also, evaluate the uniqueness of the product, as this will help you determine the long term viability of what your offering.

Key #4 – The Compensation Plan

Simply put, are you going to be paid good for your time and effort, period! This is important, because most people will quit very quickly if they do not get some money in their pocket right away. Make sure you have solid compensation plan that rewards you for your efforts.

There is a lot more you can do to understand all the different compensation plans out there, just go to Google and evaluate the different plans out there. Being clear on how your going to be paid will help alleviate the confusion, and will help you in presenting your opportunity to others.

Key #5 – Marketing System

This is probably the most important of all. If you don’t have a way to get your message out there, you won’t make any money. Most companies have a system in place that starts people out by talking to their friends, family, and co-workers. Now this is not a bad thing, and you should start out by doing this. But what are you going to do once you have exhausted your warm Market?

This is where most distributors usually throw in the towel. The simple fact is that most people after they go through their warm market are now dead in the water. Evaluate the long term viability of what system your pre launch mlm is offering (which is usually a belly to belly approach) and mesh it with an Internet based lead generation system that will bring you leads, money to fund your business, and a training platform on the latest marketing strategies that work in today’s marketplace.

By following these keys of evaluation you should be able to come to the conclusion of whether or not the opportunity your presented with is a good one or just another hype-wagon that a lot of people are jumping on.

By far this is the #1 problem most networker marketers face and by simply getting more leads, most of their problems would be solved. So the question on your mind is:

Residual income! Something everybody that gets into the network marketing industry desires from day one. But in order for the this to be a reality, you must commit to doing one major task, and that is downline building. The goal of most people in this industry is to make money off of the efforts of many while they sit on the couch and enjoy life. OK, get ready, this post is going to be a rant, and it might just ruffle a few feathers!

If you have been around the Internet for a time, you know this word (Attraction Marketing) is like a punchline used over and over to advertise ones business. While I believe the concept of “Attraction Marketing” is the absolute only way to market, I am so sick of the term itself!! It is so overexposed and used by people that are nothing but frauds using this term thinking that the sexy sound of it will pull people in all on its own. It literally cheapens the concept, and takes away from the significant power that it provides to an individual when it is practiced properly. Without a doubt the most powerful teaching on this concept is Mike Dillard’s Magnetic Sponsoring which clearly lays out and describes why not understanding this concept will cost you years and years of heartache.

What drives me bonkers is when I see cookie cutter business owners that sign up for a system or an opportunity and do nothing but promote it in a default way. It’s like they are afraid to put a little extra thought, or do something a little different to stand out.

I have a revelation for you, there is no such thing as a cookie cutter business, even in network marketing! You actually have to become more, and provide value to the world if your going to make a profit, period!

This lazy thinking is promoted within the walls of the network marketing industry by using the term “Duplication”!  because we hear the following lines all the time when referring to Duplication:

“Just plug into the system, and let the system do all the work”

“This isn’t selling, its sharing”

“The product sells itself, you don’t have to sell it”

In my humble opinion, all of these sayings do nothing but promote the mindset of being a lazy, whining, entitled and boring individual that will never succeed in network marketing. I personally think that “Duplication” as traditionally explained by all the gurus out there, is an absolute sham and a scam. You can’t duplicate a passion to succeed, you can’t duplicate a drive to do whatever it takes to win. The will to win has to come from within the depth of your soul and each person must find it within themselves. A true leader works to inspire people to find that fire within by helping that person find what works best for them and then help them pursue it like gangbusters!

You simply cannot pursue your career in networking by thinking that all you have to do is plug into a system and let it do all the work for you, and you certainly can’t think that by using some sexy copy writing terms and words is going to make you successful. This thinking goes completely against the laws of sowing and reaping. In order to reap a harvest, you have to sow a seed and cultivate first. If you want to be attractive to your prospects by using attraction marketing you must first plant the seeds in your mind and work on yourself enough to where you begin to become attractive to them, and they will follow you.

In order to be successful in this industry, you must become more! You must provide value to the world in a way that nobody else can. You can’t simply use a term and system without putting some thought and effort into making it work. This is a major reason most networkers fail in this industry because they won’t take it any further then the absolute minimum requires. You can talk to any successful business person in traditional business and network marketing and I bet you each one of them would say that the absolute drive to win is what made them successful!

I challenge you as a home business owner, not to be just like everybody else, but to stand out from the crowd and go the extra distance by using your brain a little bit to figure out how you can provide value to others.

By providing value to others you will be a leader people will look up to, and you will be a leader that people will want to follow.

If I had a penny for every time I had somebody ask me the question “Will this work for me” throughout my network marketing career, I would be retired on the beach in Costa Rica sipping a nice cold Margarita!

When people ask me this, there mindset is clearly revealed! Because it is clear that what they are missing is a little thing called:

“THE HABIT OF PERSONAL INITIATIVE”

Most people are looking for some magic pill, some outside force to bring them the money they want, and the lifestyle they crave in their MLM business, yet few are really willing to do what it takes to make it happen. Even the best systems in the world will not work if you don’t have the initiative to work hard. Your initiative is the fuel that makes the impossible possible, its what gives you the drive and the passion to go beyond where you are now, and take you to where you want to be.

I came across this video from Napoleon Hill (The author of Think and Grow Rich) on YouTube that clearly defines why this habit is of utmost importance. About the middle of the video he lists “The 16 Traits Of Personal Initiative”, they are:

5. Follow the habit of doing more than your paid for, and do it in a pleasing positive mental attitude

14. Develop a mental attitude that is positive at all times when in communication with other people

15. If you get asked a question answer with a direct answer, even if you don’t know the correct answer

16. Never put off today what could have been done last week, because the habit for procrastination is on the top of the list for reasons for failure

You will be a leader in your niche when you put these traits to work in your life and your business.

Its very sad that in the last 2 months the personal development world has lost 2 of its greatest. While these men have left behind great legacy’s, it’s important to remember that their legacy’s goes well beyond the amount of money they made in their lives. I am often reminded that in the network marketing world, success is usually determined by the amount of money someone makes, and the amount of toys they have, but the reality is that it goes so much deeper. You see the money, the cars, the houses, and all the other trinkets of success are just a by-product of the amount of people that you have personally helped along the way.

While these gentlemen will go down in the history books as some of the greatest business philosophers of our time, its important to realize that the success they enjoyed was a direct reflection of the amount of people they brought with them. To often I see networkers talk about the big money they are going to make, and their focus is solely on the material things. You always see the big cars and houses, and the fancy jewlery being advertised, but ask youself, what kind of legacy do you want to leave? Do you want to be remembered for the millions you made, or for the amount of people you helped? I don’t know about you, but I choose the later.

I choose to remember these gentlemen for their unwavering commitment to help people all over the world, and the fact that they brought value and positive change to peoples lives, this is what brought in the millions they made.

When my time comes I want people to look back and say that I was someone who cared about people, someone that did everything that he could to help those that wanted to move in a positive direction with their business and their life, and that I was someone that impacted thousands of peoples lives by the way I lived. Is that what you want? I believe that is how these 2 gentlemen would have wanted to be remembered.

So to answer the question in my title to this post, Jim Rohn and Paul J. Meyer are legends because they helped millions and millions of people throughout the course of their life achieve a greater sense of success in business, family, finances, and spirituality.

Always keep your focus on what you can do to impact a persons life in a positive way, and you will see the by-product of money come your way.

Fear of failure! its what holds most people back from doing or trying something different in life. Have you heard the saying below:

“You will always regret 100% of the chances that you don’t take”

That is the absolute truth, 100%. Most people sit around and dream all day long, but never actually get around to doing something because of fear of failure. In order to grow, in order to be successful, you must be willing to put yourself out there. You must be willing to get your feet wet, and most of all you must be willing to fail, and miserably if that’s what it takes. You can’t be afraid to fail. This fear holds people back in life like no other. Its driven in our heads, in school as we grow up, its driven in our heads from the employer we work for, and that is what will keep you from being successful.

You see the person that gets out of there comfort zone is the one that will succeed. The person that is willing to have others ridicule them during the process are the ones that will go the distance and achieve what there heart desires. Anything that is easy will usually lead to a dead end. Success in any category of life is not supposed to be easy, its supposed to challenge you so that when you reach that goal you appreciate it more. Some of the best wisdom you will ever get in life is from failing. Now you don’t want to make a habit of it, but when you do, learn from it, don’t do it again in that area. But whatever you do, never, never, never, never be afraid of failure, because if your afraid of failure guess what? You have already failed my friend.

Teamwork makes the dream work. To accomplish anything great of any significance it will take teamwork to make it happen. Even the best people in any field will tell you that they did not make it there by themselves.

The question is, who do you surround yourself with that will help you get to where you want to go? Do you surround yourself with people that are moving in the same direction as you? Do you associate with people that bring you up, or people that bring you down? Your associations are a hugh part of attaining your goals.
